Details
A broken ankle has sidelined me for weeks, but I really look forward to seeing all of you again -- this time at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria, just a short hop (yes, a SHORT hop) from Manhattan on the N train.
The outdoor beer garden is huge, so look for us in the far right corner. We usually commandeer a large section of picnic tables and drape them with flags from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. If you still can't find us, look for the guy on crutches -- that would be me. If it rains, we will meet inside -- just enter the bar and turn right down the stairs.
A note of caution: the place is scrupulous about checking IDs -- even if you look and feel as old as I do.

"Great meeting German speaking people. It was neat talking to people from the Schleswig-Holstein region, where a spent a good part of my childhood." -
Marc

Yü-Fun
"I was quite impressed by the people I met at this meeting. Although there were very few native Germans, the majority of the none-Germans had surprisingly good command of the language. In addition, most of them are well-educated people, who are open to other cultures. " -
Rob Wendt
"There were sly goings-on." -
Tarun Kapoor
"Excellent atmosphere to practice German!" -
Lisa
"This was my first meeting with the group. It was great.... we enjoyed nice weather and good german conversation. See you soon." -
Anna Spiro
"A nice group of people some of whom speak German really well -- a nice mix of people -- and I really enjoyed getting to the Bohemian Beer Hall at last."

"Excellent gathering - many friendly people. i haven't spoken so much German in the last 10 years, which i did in one night. At the beginning i was little nervous but Pat, Katharina and others made it really as if am with a family - thanks. Beer and foods were not that bad - one thing for sure cheaper than any place in Manhattan! Had a great chance to hear a brave story of a young woman - how she survived a divested - life threatening experience and i just met her that night - as if i was one of her family member! it was a fantastic gathering and i will be looking forward to for the next meet."
