We will be watching the movie "Das Leben der Anderen" (The Lives of Others). It is in German with English subtitles and is rated R. It won several German movie awards and an Emmy for best foreign film. It is about life in the former East Germany (DDR). The movie is famous for its moral seriousness and historic authenticity. Kaveh is generously providing popcorn and beer. You may bring whatever additional drinks or snacks for yourself or to share, but you don't have to bring anything. (This is not one of our potlucks). Looking forward to seeing you there!

Come to Petra's in Westerville for Oktoberfest in September! Directions will come later. She has a German exchange student I'm sure we'd all like to meet. Please bring something to cook on the grill for yourself and your own drink. Also, bring a side dish to share. When it gets dark we'll toast marshmallows and make s'mores. No need to bring your $2.00 for the web site in September because you've given all I need. Please RSVP. For the October Meetup we'll watch a movie in German with English subtitles or the other way around. Several of you have a number of movies so why don't you bring them to Petra's? We can decide on one to watch in October and pick out some more for the future. We can pick a date, too. Kaveh will reserve a movie theater for us at his apartment complex and will serve popcorn! Dorit Fratzscher, from Dresden Sister City, Inc., has invited us to the organization's July Stammtisch. Dresden is Columbus' Sister City. Sandra Krause of OSU's German Dept. is organizing the visit of a student group (Gymnasium, they are all 18 years old) from Lauchhammer (Brandenburg). There will be 9 students and 2 teachers coming. We can talk with the students and Dresden Sister City, Inc. members in German or English. The students are also planning a presentation in English on Lauchhammer and Dresden. They are here working an a project about the DDR (former East Germany). You might like to talk to them about that. Check out Vic's fabulous menu on its web site! We're having a potluck cookout tomorrow at 6:00! It's at someone's home in Westerville. Please bring something to cook on the grill, a side dish and whatever you would like to drink. Also, bring any German stuff you'd like to share, like pictures, songs and books. Bring $2.00 to cover the cost of the web site. We're planning to have the cookout outside, if it's nice out. If it's raining, we we'll all go inside to party. Please RSVP so we can plan, especially if you're RSVPing "yes." When you RSVP, note what side dish you will bring. Come join us for Maifest! The cost is only $3.00 for entry for our Meetup. Please bring your usual $2.00 to cover the cost of the Meetup web site. A buffet will be available and you can get free wine while it lasts. There will be a brief Ducal Court re-enactment and vendors, including a Mead-tasting. International entertainment includes German singing and German, Irish, Spanish and Romany-Gipsy dancers. Later in the evening a big band will play for dancing. We'll have a table reserved. Please RSVP ASAP so we can get our tickets at the $3.00 price. Hope to see you there!

Come join us for Friday Happy Hour and a German dinner or snack, too! In the lower level of the Columbus Maennerchor club there is a bar and restaurant called the Rathskeller. Please bring any German books, pictures, songs, etc. to share with us. Of course, we'll play German Scrabble if anyone would like to! Congratulations to the people who have been coming to our Meetups in the past six months! You have met the goal of $72 for the web site so you don't have to pay any dues this time. We'll start the next six months in April. Thanks for your presence as well as the money, which have made our Meetups successful. Please RSVP so we know how many people to set up for.

Petra will be our hostess in her home in Westerville. I'll give you directions later. We'll have another one of our delicious potlucks. Be thinking about what food and drink you'll bring to share with others. Please note your choices where you RSVP. Petra will have plates, utensils and cups. Bring anything German you would like to share, that is, stuff, not food unless you want to! Here are some ideas: games, pictures, songs, short stories and poems. You may like these or have ideas of your own. Also, bring $2.00 to help pay for the Meetup web site. Our calendars fill up fast so please put this Meetup on yours! The Damenchor of the Columbus Maennerchor is having its annual Karneval (Mardi Gras) on Saturday, February 21, a week before our Meetup. Mom, Bob and I will be there and so will a polka band! Call me at 486-1596 about details and tickets - $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. You don't have to dress in costume but it's more fun that way!
