Practice your German with us! The Goethe-Institut is an ideal destination for those wishing to practice hearing and speaking German. And this fall a number of our events revolve around the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Tonight at 6:30 we screen the film The Miracle of Leipzig (Das Wunder von Leipzig - Wir sind das Volk), followed by remarks from German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth and a panel discussion with the film's protagonist, producer, and director. We're almost full - but you can still get a ticket online. Or if tomorrow afternoon suits you better, we'll be offering a second screening at no charge at 1:30 pm. Seats are open, so just stop by. More here. Next Monday, October 5, our fall session of courses for learners at all levels begins. Register by tomorrow to enter to win a language course in Germany! "Wende Flicks", a series of films made by East German filmmakers as the Wende, or turning point, took place that led to the fall of the Wall, opens next week. Monday we show The Mistake (Die Verfehlung); Thursday is the film Silent Country (Stilles Land) with filmmaker Andreas Dresen. And next Friday afternoon, award-winning German author Uwe Saeger, who has witnessed life before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, will present his personal experiences (in German). Bis bald!
