Walt...Can't find that section in the Wecker Website to post my impression per your request.
Well, didn't see any of you there. I was there in my Bundthosen and armed with my 1 L Paulaner Bier Mass. Not your typical Oktoberfest although the event was fun for the young at heart. Mostly college aged kids. Very crowded, but everyone was very pleasant and was having lots of fun. All the girls dressed as Sexy Dirndls were a sight to behold (sorry, could not help but peek :-) ). The Sclauberger should have played at this event...would have rocked the house...the Edelweiss band? They were good, but hardly the band for an event like this. I liked the Kelly Bell band...actually got me to do some "Arsch Wackln." It was my 1st time at that fest. I enjoyed it and stayed till the end. It's not for everyone, I'll warn you of that fact! You see...I'll never grow up! I only have 2 gripes. (1) It was not worth the $25 entrance fee, not by a longshot. It helped that they handed out extra bier tokens to those that wore Oktoberfest attire. General admission included only 6 beer tokens. Special thanks to that cigar smoking Blonde in the teeny "Dirndl" outfit that handed me something like 20. (2) And what on earth were they thinking handing out 4 oz plastic beer cups and instructing their service staff to pour only one at a time? What a sight that was to behold. Kept everyone on waiting lines most of the time. Oh yes, they were trying to control everyone's Bier consumption. Remember, I had that 1 L Masskrug...it didn't take long for me to find out who my friends were. To fill one of those would cost 8 bier tokens if you can find service that would even do that. I found several vendors that catered to my rebelious nature and poured me a full Mass for a small token of appreciation and as a reward for my looking "authentic." Sorry folks, Ernstl just can't do a "petite" Bier glass. Those that complemented my drinking vessel (or my Tracht) were offered a refill of their "petite" Bier glass. I had lots of beer tokens left over and gave them away. I just had to spread the joy. What you get out of Oktoberfest depends on what you put into it. My advice if you go next year? Wear Lederhosen or a Dirndl. I'll see you there next year :-) |
