I know Wooster is quite a hike, but I just heard about this delightful little pastry and coffee shop in Wooster and want to give it a try. If anyone is interested in going please let me know. We might be able to arrange a car pool.
From their website:
Tulipán Hungarian Pastry and Coffee Shop opened in 2004, but the idea for the shop was many years in the making. Owner Elizabeth Lakatos emigrated to the United States from Hungary in 1976, and she brought with her the traditional recipes of her mother and the generations before her. After many years of satisfying her family and friends with her baking, Elizabeth opened Tulipán ("tulip" in Hungarian) and thus created a new gathering place for the Wooster community.
Tulipán brings a turn-of-the-century European atomosphere to Wooster, combining an elegant aura with gracious service and mouth-watering desserts. Pastries are available in a wide variety of flavors and textures, from rich buttercream cakes to light, flaky croissants and strudels. Elizabeth's daughter Lilly is carrying on her mother's traditions by baking the classic pastries and also adding new ideas of her own.
In addition to pastries, Tulipán also offers the highest quality coffees and coffee drinks, as well as a daily selection of fresh and homemade sandwiches, soups, omelettes, and more.
"I am delighted to bring Hungarian flavor to Wooster," says Elizabeth. "I hope I can not only offer delicious desserts, but inform people about my culture."
In 2006, Tulipán received the honor of being named the "New Small Business of the Year" from the Wooster Chamber of Commerce.
