This meeting is taking place in collaboration with the German Club of DU. We will be watching the film "Vistus" which received the Swiss prize for best film of 2007. Please be on time as we will start the film at 2:45pm sharp. Light refreshments will be served after the movie during our discussion and fellowship time. Hope to see you all there. Welcome to our annual Christmas party! This time we will be meeting at the Three Fountains Clubhouse, see address below. Please remember to bring a holiday dessert to share. We will be enjoying a traditional German Christmas, complete with German Christmas music and songs, traditional baked goods, an appearance by Santa for the younger ones in the group, some poetry and other readings as well as a cup or two of Gisela's famous Gluhwein. Col. Pierre Powell has served in Afghanistan for several years. He was the vice commander of US forces in the region and will share his unique perspective and experiences with us. He is the son of Ursula and Al Powell, longtime board members of the Goethe Club of Denver. Pierre has travelled widely throughout Asia and Europe and thus brings to us a wealth of information and insight all based on first hand knowledge and experience. I know you will enjoy this exciting speaker, AND he has agreed to to Q&A session after his talk! As always, there will be refreshments served afterwards. Dr. Pete Kastner, Chair of the German Dept. at UNC, is one of our very favorite speakers. He always brings us a knowledgeable, fascinating and relevant presentation on subjects of great interest to our members. This time is no exception. Come and enjoy hearing his presentation on the multi-cultural issues facing Germany today. The presentation will be in English. Kaffee and Kuchen will be served afterwards. Dr. Dietrich Schultze will be giving a presentation on the influence of Goethe, both as a poet and as a statesman. This presentation will be in German with no translation. At the same time, Alexis Schultze, Dr. Schultze's wife, will be giving a travellogue on Goethe and his travels. This will be in English and will be accompanied by slides. Mrs. Schultze is a professional photographer. So, whether you enjoy listening to an outstanding speaker in German or prefer to sit back, relax and enjoy a wonderful travellogue in English (with slides), this meeting will satfisfy you either way.
