Guten Tag Mitgleider,
Once again it is Oktoberfest time. If you sign up, you will soon be speaking in German with me and other members of the club, drinking beer at the TurnVerein, and maybe even dancing. This is an excellent way to celebrate one of the most famous events in Germany.
Did you know Oktoberfest began as a wedding celebration in Munich on October 18,1810?
You can read about the history of Oktoberfest here:
http://en.wikipedia.o...
Of course, you may enjoy more reading the enticing advertisement on the TurnVerein website for the event:
Oktoberfest beer from Munich, authentic German food, Kaffeehaus, dancing to German music, and a biergarten with specialty foods:

There is a $10 admission charge at the door for adults, and $5 charge for children from 5-12 years old. And bringing about $5 to $7 for food and a drink is recommended. Or if you plan to drink a lot, there are club members who would be happy to give you a ride there and back. Also, if you would like to make a donation for our club, I would be happy to pass it along to Erin.
The event is scheduled to run from 5pm till around 11pm on Friday, October 2. The Turnverein also celebrates Oktoberfest on Saturday, though for this group, I have chosen Friday, as the staff will be fresher. I have set a meetup time for our group on Friday from around 5:30 to 6pm. After 6pm, you may have trouble entering the building, as the event typically reaches the maximum capacity for the TurnVerein. After the maximum capacity is reached, you can only enter after someone leaves the building. Thus, some determined people may wait over an hour before being allowed in. And I imagine staying till at least 8 or 9pm. Typically, I have stayed till the end, around 11pm.
Also, the turnverein has a number of rooms, so a good meetup place for us is upstairs in the room across from the room with the band. Hopefully you recognize the faces of other club members, otherwise I will have a small German Flag as an ornament on the table, as well as my white jacket.
That's about it for the technical parts of putting the meeting together. I look forward to seeing you there!
Tschuess!
Andrew
