Hey gang,

I've had a few great ideas from fellow members lately ... such as a weekly or bi-monthly "Kaffeeklatsch" at a Starbucks, for those of you who can't make the evening dinners, or who just want more opportunity to practice your Deutsch ... and a new restaurant suggestion: Barley and Hops in Bethel Park. Let me look into these options and I'll let you guys know more about them later (like, I don't know how many people Barley and Hops can accommodate, or which Starbucks would be best for the most people in our group.)

Now, for the Dezember Meet-Up ... since December gets a little buys towards the end of the month, and I'm a little late on the planning (sorry), I figured we'd go to one of our old stand-byes: Max's Allegheny Tavern on the North Side. We always have a nice turn out there, and they are always very accommodating (and they're still open, unlike 2 of our other fave locations).

So, mark your calendars for Thursday, December 17 @ 6:00, and I'll hope to see you all there!

Bis dann,
Gretchen

Hallo Alle!

At the last meet-up, we decided that we should head on back to the Kleiner Deutschman in Springdale! It's a rosy-pink Victorian-style house along Freeport Road, and they have quite a nice menu. I picked the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, because I thought people might have a little extra time that evening to come out with us a speak a little Deutsch. It is a little on the pricey-er side (compared to the other restaurants we've been to), but the food is authentic and delicious! When you RSVP, please be honest about it. :) This restaurant has a bunch of smaller rooms (it's an old home), and they need to know how many of us there are so they can properly accommodate us.

Hope to see you all there!

Since some folks have trouble getting to Meet Ups on the week nights, I thought we'd schedule one for a Saturday afternoon. So here goes ... Saturday, October 10 @ noon at the Atria's in O'Hara (Fox Chapel). I talked to the folks there, and they said they can accommodate a big group for lunch on a Saturday. Like I said in my last email, Atria's Oktoberfest menu is super delicious! Depending on how big our group is, we might do a "family style" meal, but that's kinda fun, too! We could decide ahead of time what we want to try, and share! We'll play that by ear, though.

Since out plans for the lunch will be determined by the number of people (whether we do family style or not), I'm going to allow a "yes" or "no" for RSVP only (no "maybe") Please make sure that you can come if you RSVP "yes" (and I know I've missed a few after saying I could come ... I won't do it this time!) :)

For those of you who don't know where this Atria's is, it's right off of route 28 ... I think you take the Fox Chapel exit, make a right off of the exit, and at the light, turn left onto Freeport Rd. About a mile down the road, Atria's in on the right.

Hope to see you there!

Hallo Alle!

One thing we discussed at the last Meet Up (which, I believe, brought in a record 23 members!) was planning events that were not just "restaurant-related." Now, of course we enjoy our Brats and Biers in the Biergarten, but in addition, I thought it might be cool to have a German film night every once in awhile. Plans are still in the works for such an event, so I'll be in touch with more information ... right now, we might have someone with and outdoor projector and a big, open wall on the outside of the house ... drive-in style? Maybe!

So, in the mean time, I figured we should have one more outdoor Meet Up at the Hofbräuhaus Biergarten ... while the weather is still nice! Since earlier in the week is less crowded, I'm scheduling our Meet Up for Tuesday, September 15 @ 6:30.

Oh, and if anyone else has any other suggestions for the group, feel free to let me know. Bis dann!

Hey guys! Well this will be the first Meet Up officially planned by your new organizer ... me (Gretchen). I realize that Adam's name still appears as the organizer ... we tried to change it, and it won't go.

Anyway, since the weather's still nice, the group and I consulted at the July Meet Up, and decided to have the August meeting in the Biergarten at the Hofbräuhaus. I talked to the hostess there, and she said she can reserve us a table (I'll call closer to the date).

To make things easier, please be decisive about your RSVPing ... that way I can give the hostess a more exact number when I reserve our table. Also, please remember to bring a dollar to help cover the cost of the website.

Hope to see you all there!

Wie geht's euch?

I apologize for taking so long to post the information for the July meetup. The July German language meetup will take place at the Penn Brewery (of course) at 6pm on Wednesday July 15th. It will be my final meetup as I am moving back to the Philadelphia area where I'm originally from, and Gretchen Gyrich will be taking over as head organizer. The weather should be beautiful in mid-July...Pirates game weather even. As such, we're hoping for as many members as possible to attend, since we will be able to sit outside in the Biergarten. Bis Juli!

Wie geht's wie steht's?

It has been a very long time since we have held a meetup on a Sunday. I know that it's very difficult for some people to come to the Wednesday or Thursday meetups due to their work schedules or the driving that they would have to endure through rush hour traffic. As such, the June 2009 Meetup will take place on Sunday June 7th at the Sharp Edge bar and restaurant in East Liberty/Shadyside. Directions and menu are available at www.sharpedgebeer.com. See everyone On Sunday June 7th at 6pm!

Gruess euch!

I finally figured out how to keep this website from automatically scheduling meetups. I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused over the years. From now on, anytime you receive information or notifications about a meetup, it will indeed be true. Since the April 2nd meetup at the Hofbraeuhaus in the Southside Works was such a success, Gretchen and I figured that we may as well just hold the May meetup there as well. It will take place on Wednesday, May 6th at 6:30pm.
I would also like to take the time to announce that I will be moving back to my home in Philadelphia on July 28th. As such, Gretchen Gyrich will be taking over my duties as the Meetup organizer. Be extra nice to Gretchen and she may just let you be her assistant organizer. I also want to thank everyone who has shared feedback and attended any of the meetups since I took over Jamie Kosele's duties in June of 2007. It has been an honor and a pleasure to meet all of you.

allerbeste Gruesse, und man sieht sich am 6. Mai.

Guten Tag meine Deutschsprechenden!

April! Bis dann! Tschuess!

Adam

Hallo, wie geht's euch? Hoffentlich seid ihr alle gut reingerutscht. The February Pittsburgh German Language Meetup will take place on Wednesday February 25th at the Sharp Edge in Shadyside/East Liberty at 6pm. The Sharp Edge remains one of the few locations on our list of frequent meetup spots that isn't actually a German-themed restaurant, however it does have a very attractive selection of German craft beers. Please feel free to peruse their website to take a look at their menu and/or obtain, directions if you've never been there before. http://www.sharpedgebeer.com Bis Februar!!
